Firefly The Firefly, the new hit Whedon series, was a result of one-off episodes. Summer Glau's River Tam character was complex and Glau was able to handle it. Summer Glau's character in Tam's film was compelled to take part in government-sponsored tests so that she could be prepared for her role as the perfect assassin. Tam's capacity to control her emotions was taken away from her. Glau was able to show her fighting abilities as well as her acting abilities in Firefly. The fact that she was being trained to be an assassin allowed Glau to fully use her athletic abilities. Summer Glau was classically-trained as ballerina. She also has the study of flamenco and tango but it was a fractured toe that put her off dancing. Firefly was only on for the duration of one episode, but was a huge hit with its fans. Whedon returned to it many years later. However, Summer Glau continued to be a star in a variety of shows. Summer Glau appeared on television shows like Cold Case, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
